Abstract:

Background: Typhoid fever is common infectious disease in our country. In the era of antimicrobial resistance combination drug therapy now is the standard of treatment in infectious diseases like TB, HIV, leprosy, malaria and kala-azar. Synergistic action between beta-lactum and aminoglycosides had been shown In-vitro for salmonella but clinical evidence to support these data was sparse. So, this study was designed to compare clinical outcome of enteric fever treated with ceftriaxone alone with ceftriaxone-amikacin combination therapy in our context.
